Nashville DP Day Rate (2026): What Cinematographers Make in Music City
What working cinematographers actually make in Nashville in 2026. Music video, commercial, and series rate ranges, plus how the music-led production identity drives pricing.
Nashville is a music-led production market. Country music videos, Christian and faith-based content, country-adjacent documentary, and a steady commercial pipeline anchor the day-to-day work. Series production in Tennessee is meaningful but smaller than Atlanta or NOLA. Working DPs in Nashville in 2026 are pulling $1,000-2,200/day on music video work, $900-1,800/day on commercial, $750-1,500/day on streaming and series.
This guide is the practical breakdown of cinematographer rates in Nashville in 2026: the music video factor, how commercial pricing works, and what the small-but-real series market looks like.
The quick answer
| Tier | Music video | Commercial | Streaming / series |
|---|---|---|---|
| Entry / new DP | $600-900 | $600-900 | $500-800 |
| Mid (5-10 years) | $1,000-1,500 | $900-1,400 | $850-1,300 |
| Senior / repped | $1,500-2,500+ | $1,500-2,500+ | $1,300-2,000+ |
These are 10 to 12-hour day rates in 2026 before prep, travel, weather hold, and kit. Music video work in Nashville pulls rates up for the senior tier because country and Christian music budgets routinely fund top DPs with national-commercial-equivalent quotes.
Why Nashville DP rates land where they do
Country music video volume. Major-label country acts shoot music videos in Nashville at high cadence. Budgets for country music videos have grown substantially in recent years as streaming and short-form social drove video as a primary marketing channel for the genre. Top music video DPs in Nashville command rates comparable to national commercial DPs.
Christian and faith-based market. Nashville is the production capital of the Christian and faith-based content market. Feature films, docs, and series in this category are an under-discussed but substantial slice of the city's production economy. Budgets vary widely but the senior DP tier in this lane is real.
Tennessee Entertainment Commission. TN has a film incentive program. It is meaningfully smaller than GA, LA, or NM, but it functions and supports baseline production volume.
Commercial work. Nashville commercial production has grown alongside the city's broader economic growth. Country-adjacent brands (Bass Pro, Cracker Barrel, Tractor Supply, country apparel and lifestyle brands) anchor a steady regional commercial pipeline.
Senior DP scarcity. Nashville has a tight senior DP community, with several DPs splitting time between Nashville and Atlanta or LA. The shortlist for top music video and feature work is small.
By project type
Major-label country music video. $1,500-2,800/day for a top music video DP. Top-tier DPs with multiple #1 country videos on their reel quote $3,000-5,000/day. Day rates depend heavily on the artist, the label, and the director.
Indie / mid-tier music video. $800-1,400/day. Solid mid-tier DPs build their reels on this work.
National commercial. $1,200-2,000/day for a working senior DP. Country-adjacent national brands often shoot in Nashville with national commercial budgets.
Regional commercial / branded content. $700-1,200/day.
Streaming series. Smaller market than Atlanta but functional. Most series in TN shoot signatory under ICG Local 600. Typical DP day rates: $1,000-1,500/day plus prep days, vehicle, and box. The exception is signature episodic series with major showrunners, which quote higher.
Indie feature. $600-1,100/day non-union. Christian and faith-based features form a substantial slice of indie feature volume.
Documentary. $600-1,000/day. Strong doc tradition in Nashville especially in music documentary.
The music video premium
Music video DP rates in Nashville run above the equivalent commercial rate for the senior tier. Three reasons.
One. Country music budgets have grown faster than country-adjacent commercial budgets. Streaming and short-form social have pushed labels and artists to fund videos as marketing investments rather than promotional afterthoughts.
Two. Top music video DPs are also doing concert film and Netflix-style music documentary work, which pays at feature-level rates and supports their broader day-rate quoting.
Three. Music video shoots are typically 1-3 days, intense, requiring DPs who can deliver high visual production value on compressed schedules. That commands a premium.
Prep days, travel, and weather hold
DP prep days in Nashville bill at 50-75% of shoot-day rate. Music video prep is often a single concentrated prep day with the artist, director, and creative team. Commercial prep follows agency-driven schedules. Series prep follows showrunner and episodic-block patterns.
Travel days bill at 75-100% of shoot day rate for DPs traveling outside Nashville for location work.
Weather hold pre-booked days bill at 75% of shoot day rate when held due to weather.
Camera package considerations
Nashville's camera rental ecosystem is led by Contrast Cine (cinema cameras, lenses, including a strong vintage cinema lens collection), Nashville Lighting & Grip (camera plus grip plus lighting one-stop), and several smaller specialty rental houses. Bringing the DP onboard early can save substantially on the camera package because the local DP knows which house has which lens kit and how to negotiate package rates.
How rates have moved 2024 to 2026
Nashville DP rates moved up 10-15% across 2024-2026, with music video and commercial moving more sharply than series.
- Country music video budgets continue to grow
- Commercial production volume up with regional economic growth
- Senior DP scarcity sustained pricing pressure
- Series volume modest but stable
For 2026 budgets, plan 5-8% above 2025 line items.

The bottom line for coordinators
A working mid-tier DP in Nashville in 2026 typically lands at $1,000-1,500/day on music video and $900-1,400/day on commercial. Senior DPs on major-label country music video work run $1,500-2,800/day. Series work runs $1,000-1,500/day on signatory productions. Budget prep, travel, and weather hold separately. The camera package is a real line that the DP can help compress.
Nashville is a small market with a distinctive identity. The work is music-led, the relationships are tight, and the budgets are real for the right project type.
