How do I hire a film crew?Post your shoot on NeedaCrew. It's free and takes a few minutes. Tell us what you're making, the city and the dates, and we suggest the roles it usually needs. Local crew who fit hear about it and tap in with their work and their rate. Pick who you want, send an offer, sign the agreement and pay by card.
How much does a film crew cost per day?It depends on the roles, the city and experience. As a rough guide, a camera operator runs about $350 to $1,000 a day and a DP about $600 to $2,500. A small three-person day with camera, sound and a PA is often around $925 to $2,550. Crew set their own rates, and you see each person's rate before you book. The hirer pays 5%. Crew keep 100% of their rate.
Can I hire just one person?Yes. A crew of one counts. Hire an editor, a shooter, a photographer, a PA or a makeup artist for the day. Pick "A crew of one" when you post.
Is it free to post?Yes. Posting is free, and so is reading tap-ins and messaging crew. You only pay when you book someone, and your first project has no fee at all. The hirer pays 5%. Crew keep 100% of their rate.
How do I pay crew?By card, on NeedaCrew. When you pay, each crew member's rate goes straight to their own Stripe account. NeedaCrew never holds the money. If you pay people through a payroll company instead, book here, pay your usual way, and we invoice the fee monthly.
Are the crew local to me?That's the idea. Your post goes straight to crew in your city, so you're hiring people who live there, with no travel days to cover. Every profile shows where they're based.
How is this different from a staffing agency? An agency picks people for you and usually adds its own markup. On NeedaCrew you see each person's work and rate yourself, you choose who to book, and crew keep 100% of what they charge. It's built for the work in between big productions: promos, music videos, events, podcasts, short films and one-day shoots.
